TBS’s “Men at Work” is not a groundbreaking sitcom. It’s four unmarried guy friends who work at a magazine. There is no high concept.
But if you just want a few laughs, the show serves its purpose. It returns Wednesday, January 15 for a third season of 10 episodes.
I spoke earlier this week with Danny Masterson, one of the stars, best known as Hyde on "That 70s Show." He plays Milo, a single guy on the show without a lot of game.
‘We did 100 episodes in four seasons” on “That 70s show,” he said at the Four Seasons in Midtown Atlanta. “They like us here 10 episodes at a time.”
That does leave him a lot of spare time. He does a few films in the interim but is rather picky on TV guest spots. He often gets Hyde-like offers but he turns them down because he feels "a 37-year-old skateboard stoner type seems old."
Masterson gets a girlfriend but he said he starts having fantasies of her with her female friend. But in his fantasies, he said, the female friend keeps becoming Ryan Phillippe, which is rather disturbing.
Dave Krumholtz ("Numbers') will take over as the magazine publisher for J.K. Simmons, who has left for another show. 'He's f****** amazing," Masterson said.
They also did an episode which featured Ed Asner and Jane Seymour. "We call it the 'legends' episode," he said. Ed plays an intern and Jane plays a hottie cougar who comes on to Milo. "She's really hot, her body is really sick. She has that posh English accent but a wicked look in her eye. That's a perfect combination for the cougar sex tramp."
Working with the other three actors - James Lesure, Adam Busch and Michael Cassidy - has been really great, Masterson added. They hang out together off season. "It's so fun and relaxed," he said.
He's had several of his "That 70s Show' alums show up on the show, including Laura Prepon and Ashton Kutcher. He hopes to get Mila Kunis season four, assuming TBS gives them one.
