Kathy Griffin at the Fox Theatre goes after usual suspects: Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan, Elisabeth Hasselback, Nancy Grace

Her humor centers almost exclusively around pop culture, the stuff you see on Perez Hilton and TMZ.

But like a younger edition of Joan Rivers, she portrays herself assiduously as a Hollywood outsider, an underdog who is often "banned" from TV appearances when she becomes too offensive.

She picked on some fairly obvious targets: Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, Levi Johnston and Tiger Woods, to name a few.  She also did a hilarious imitation of Atlantan and bulldog HLN host Nancy Grace talking about the JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater.

And she is gunning for her third Emmy later this month, competing against the likes of "Antiques Roadshow" for outstanding reality program. That got a  good laugh. Then she compared her V-Jay-Jay to an "Antiques Roadshow."  That got a bigger laugh.

She also managed to throw in a Ryan Seacrest reference because a show he produced is also competing against her: ABC's "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution." "She worked her way into my poor little category," Griffin said, turning Seacrest's gender around. "It's not enough for her to sit on her f** pile of money hosting that singing show. Now she's coming after me in my poor little dog-and-pony-show category!"

She is the queen of tangents, starting a story, then getting sidetracked. She started with Naomi  Campbell on Oprah Winfrey, then segued into Oprah's weight and dominance (her network is the Oprah Women's Network or  OWN or as Griffin, notes, "she OWNs all of us."). She eventually got back to Campbell and her cellphone throwing ways.

We learned of the many trashy shows she enjoys. She enjoys TLC's "Little Chocolatiers," VH1's "The OCD Project" (in which she mocked the ways the show helped a woman who kept thinking she was driving over little children) and Discovery Health's "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant." Her imitation of the typical woman who had no idea she was having a baby was hilarious.

And yes, there was a local restaurant shout out: the Flying Biscuit down the street, where she ate the Love Cakes.

She ended her night with a lengthy story about clashing with Elisabeth Hasselback on "The View" to promote her Bravo show. It came across more dynamic and interesting during her telling on stage than in actuality below:
