Dave Coulier understands the power of Uncle Joey Gladstone.

Fifteen years after "Full House" ended its eight-year run, the sweet sitcom remains a staple on ABC Family and Teen Nick. (It aired a whopping 66 times the week of June 28.) The most common questions people ask Coulier is, "Are you still in touch with the other cast members?"

Yes, he is.

I spoke with him by phone Wednesday afternoon before he makes his first visit to Atlanta as a stand-up comedian in at least 20 years. He had lunch with Bob Saget two weeks earlier and had dinner plans with John Stamos that night.

"We share our latest 'Full House' recognition moments," said Coulier, who will be at the Funny Farm this weekend. (Details below). "We Twitter and Facebook each other. We keep in touch on birthdays. We see each other at charity events and barbecues. We really are a functional family off camera."

The show itself, "is now cross generational. It keeps cultivating new fans. There's some sort of Kool Aid in that show and we can't figure it out!"

He said he had a "blast" on set. "It was like me being in a candy store for a comedian," he said. "Every week, I could just come up with something really fun and funny. The producers were very generous. It was the best possible job I could have ever dreamed up."

[Forgotten "Full House"? Here's a clip.]

He jokes about "Full House" on his Web site. Such as this:

Coulier never found a role quite as high profile since the show ended but has remained busy as a stand-up comic, advertising himself as a "clean comic." Ironic, as he noted, since Saget is anything but. "I call him my filthy Jewish sister."

He said he gently mocks Saget's bifurcated image in his act. "He's known by some as affable Danny Tanner and host of 'America's Funniest Home Videos.' Then he has to be Bob Saget again. I've seen people watch his live show from the front row with their mouths open. They're thinking, 'Oh my God! I can't believe he lived in that house with three little girls all those years!' "

Coulier is trying to get sponsors to put a "Clean Guys" tour together, kind of like "Kings of Comedy" or the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour." He is also pitching a reality show in which he tries to "rehab" blue comics.

"I came up the ranks of 'The Tonight Show,' " from the Johnny Carson era, he explained. "Back then, you had to be clean to get on that show." And he hasn't changed. "I've never had anyone complain that I was too clean!"

Leno at the time also told him, 'If you go clean, you'll work anywhere." (And yes, Coulier does a pretty good Leno impersonation.)

Coulier seven years ago was part of "The Surreal Life 3" with Charo and Flavor Flav. He became friends with Flav of all people.

"He usually calls me when his hair is getting braided," Coulier said. "He's got this girl Latisha who always says, 'Why don't you call Dave?' 'I gotta call Dave, boooooy!' " Coulier is also shopping around a reality show/sitcom hybrid called "Dave and Flav."

But here's some news: he just put his house up for sale in Los Angeles. He's moving back to Michigan, his home state, after 31 years. "I love California," he said. "But I love my family more. I've missed too many Thanksgivings and birthdays. You don't have to be in Los Angeles anymore to stay in show business."

He plans to work on a new vitamin/supplement product he couldn't tell me about just yet and plans to sell it on TV, too, something he has never done before. "This will be the first time I'll be putting my big fat head to sell something I created," he said.

Based on questions people wanted me to ask Coulier, it's clear some folks are fascinated that he dated Alanis Morissette in the early 1990s and may have been the subject of her most famous song, "You Oughta Know."

Over the years, Morissette has steadfastly refused to say who the song is about, leaving it a mystery for the ages. Coulier has told press in the past there are some clues that might point to him but he really isn't sure. Even when he broached the topic to her, she simply told him to say whatever he wants. He wasn't any more helpful to me on this subject.

"That was so long ago and became one of those urban legends," he said. "We remained friends for a long time. That song had no bearing on our relationship... I've always tried to take the high road. I don't know if I'm the guy."

He acknowledged that "things hit close to home with 'Jagged Little Pill.' She was writing that while we were dating. I have given no answer to your question."

And it isn't really Coulier's question to answer. It's Morissette's.
