TV best bets with Election Day overshadowing anything else

Tuesday is the big day for America and for television. All the major broadcast networks are covering election night, along with the cable news networks, C-SPAN and PBS.

Lifetime is throwing in an election special featuring the cast of "The View." TV One with Roland Martin hosting will cover the election as well. And Showtime will air an 11 p.m. special featuring Stephen Colbert, which he is calling "Stephen Colbert's Live Election Night Democracy's Series Finale."

Twitter is doing a live video feed from Buzzfeed on election night. YouTube will offer live feeds from  NBC NewsPBSMTV NewsBloombergTelemundo  and  The Young Turks . Facebook will offer live coverage from the likes of the Washington Post and the New York Times. More details here. 

On Monday and Wednesday, Samantha Bee on TBS will do election-oriented episodes.

And The Weather Channel will counter-program Tuesday with calming scenery and weather-related video set to smooth jazz from 3 p.m. to midnight. It's dubbed "Escape the Election."

MONDAY

"Dancing With the Stars" 8 p.m. ABC — NFL great Calvin Johnson, formerly of Georgia Tech, has now made the top six.

"Gotham" 8 p.m. Fox — Barnes begins to go mad; Nygma is out of his depth with Isabella.

"Supergirl" 8 p.m. the CW — Supergirl faces a new challenge from a ruthless gang who are armed and dangerous with cutting-edge alien technology.

"The Voice" 8 p.m. NBC — The live playoffs will feature live voting as well.

"American Dad" 9 p.m. TBS (14th season debut) — A parody of the movie "Groundhog Day," as Stan keeps reliving the same Father's Day.

"2 Broke Girls" 9 p.m. CBS — Earl becomes concerned he may not be able to keep up when his long-lost sweetheart, Pilar, visits from Cuba and wants him to take her sightseeing around the country.

"People of Earth" 9 p.m. TBS — Richard faces his shattered marriage with help from Ozzie.

"Scorpion" 10 p.m. CBS — The team must stop someone who tries to intervene in the U.S. presidential election on Election Day.

"Saturday Night Live election special" 10 NBC — Because nobody is sick of this election yet.

"Conviction" 10:01 p.m. ABC — The CIU examines the case of a young man taken in by a wealthy family and convicted of killing one of the members.

TUESDAY

Election coverage all night on the major networks and cable news channels. Stephen Colbert has a special at 11 p.m. on Showtime focused on the election as well. Other options include:

"Channel Zero" 9 p.m. Syfy — Mike and Amy hunt for the creator of "Candle Cove."

"Real Husbands of Hollywood" 9 p.m. BET — Kevin and Nick have a rap war.

"The Letter" 9 p.m. Freeform  — Four friends from Maryland exchange letters that suggest how to improve their lives by performing music in front of a live audience.

"Married With Secrets" 10 p.m. ID — The disappearance of an aspiring kindergarten teacher in Dublin, Ireland, is linked to a twisted BDSM master.

"Chopped" 10 p.m. Food Network — Thrifty ingredients are featured throughout the competition.

"Drunk History" 10:30 p.m. Comedy Central — Stories about presidents and elections, including Abraham Lincoln's law career and the campaign between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, are recalled.

WEDNESDAY

"Blindspot" 8 p.m. NBC — Jane and Weller vanish while working undercover.

"The Goldbergs" 8 p.m. ABC — Adam decides to use Murray's love of action movies to convince his dad to help him make one.

"Survivor" 8 p.m. CBS — Seems like a merge is due, isn't it?

"Empire" 9 p.m. Fox — Retaliation seems inevitable after Lucious and Andre's latest business encounter with Shine goes bad.

"Criminal Minds" 9 p.m. CBS — The BAU investigates whether bullying may be the link between two high school students who are the sole survivors after both of their families are killed.

"Law & Order: SVU" 9 p.m. NBC — The CEO of a record label is questioned by police.

"Modern Family" 9 p.m. ABC  — Jay's last refuge and favorite place in the world could be a lost cause when Phil wants to be a member.

"Black-ish" 9:31 p.m. ABC — Dre and Bow realize that Jack may have a blue-collar future in store when the twins bring home their career-test results.

"Designated Survivor" 10 p.m. ABC — Shots are fired at the White House during a Governors Summit.

"Code Black" 10 p.m. CBS — Malaya must inform a college student who regains consciousness at Angels Memorial that she's the victim of a rape.

"Younger" 10 p.m. TV Land — A women's erotica event threatens to expose the author's secret while Liza and Kelsey try to preserve it.

THURSDAY

"Grey's Anatomy " 8 p.m. ABC — A challenging surgery is performed, and it triggers powerful memories for Meredith, Richard, Owen and Stephanie.

"Every Christmas Has a Story" 8 tonight Hallmark — An anti-Christmas remark is uttered by a TV host, who then must cover a week of holiday events in a town known for its elaborate celebrations.

"Saturday Night Live" 11:29 tonight NBC — Dave Chappelle hosts for the first time.

"Christmas Cookies" 8 p.m. Sunday Hallmark — A cookie company is sold to a big conglomerate, resulting in a small-town factory being shut down.

"The Real Housewives of Atlanta" 8 p.m. Sunday Bravo — An unexpected guest arrives at Kenya's housewarming party in the wake of Porsha's arrival.

"The Walking Dead" 9 p.m. Sunday AMC — The remaining members of the core group hold together in Alexandria. Then, they receive a sobering visit.

"Isis: Rise of Terror" 9 p.m. Sunday History — This special reveals the origins of the Islamic State.

"Madam Secretary" 9:30 p.m. Sunday CBS — Elizabeth makes a bold move to bring a man who funded a terrorist bombing at an Illinois coffee shop to justice after the Saudi ambassador refuses to take action.

"Westworld" 9 p.m. Sunday HBO — Maeve gives an ultimatum to Lutz and Sylvester.

"Eyewitness" 10 p.m. Sunday USA — Ryan interferes with an autopsy to stop Helen from getting closer to the truth.

"Quantico" 10 p.m. Sunday ABC — The trainees learn about enhanced interrogation techniques when Owen puts himself in the hot seat.

"Master of Sex" 10 p.m. Sunday Showtime (fourth season finale) — Masters and Johnson work to save the practice from disintegrating in the face of insurrection within the clinic.
