Sally Yates: Expanding federal prison budget threatens public safety

Former Atlanta prosecutor Sally Yates, now No. 2 at the U.S. Justice Department under Attorney General Loretta Lynch, says she'll spend the next 18 months trying to depopulate the federal prison system. From NPR:

"We know that it's the cop on the street that's one of the most important things to be able to keep our communities safe. But yet over the past decade, there's been a 40 percent reduction in the grant money that's available for cops on the street," Yates says.
