Forgive Clay Tippins if he looks extra groggy on Election Day. The Republican candidate for governor is pulling an all-nighter for all to see.

The first-time candidate launched what he billed as a marathon Facebook Live session at 8 p.m. Monday and he pledged to continue until he voted in the morning or until voters ran out of questions.

In one answer, he echoed his stump speech by talking about the “waste, fraud and abuse” in Georgia spending and his pitch to improve third-grade reading rates.

But we also heard him talk about the time his wife Lori was mistaken for a mermaid by a delirious group of Navy SEALs after she floated them Snickers bars and Gatorades.

And he brought state Rep. Allen Peake, the godfather of the state’s medical marijuana program, on by cellphone to talk about why he supports expanding the initiative.

Tippins, a former SEAL, is used to long stretches without sleep. But he’s looking to keep the night interesting by keeping his overnight schedule hopping.

Among his interviews: A 1 a.m. sitdown with Dante Stephensen, the Atlanta icon and restaurateur.
