With no fewer than seven challengers trying to knock off U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall this year, it’s no surprise the Lawrenceville Republican has begun ramping up his fundraising ahead of the March qualifying deadline.
Woodall bolstered his fundraising in the final three months of 2017 by 50 percent above his third-quarter haul, new campaign finance records show. The four-term congressman brought in about $151,000, besting all of his opponents.
Woodall’s latest haul, however, isn’t necessarily the kind of eye-popping sum that would scare away would-be opponents.
His Democratic opponents, meanwhile, continued to duke it out for a financial foothold.
Georgia State University Professor Carolyn Bourdeaux bested her five fellow Democrats, raising $128,000. Businessman David Kim pulled in some $110,000.
Fundraising in these races isn’t everything, but national Democratic groups are closely watching to see if any viable challengers to Woodall emerge before jumping in with financial contributions of their own.
Woodall ended 2017 with about $406,000 on hand, nearly double that of his closest competitor.
