Last week, Republican Michael Williams attacked rival Casey Cagle over law enforcement pay in a bizarre press conference meant to boost his campaign for governor.

This morning, the lieutenant governorsprung a list of endorsements by 58 sheriffs around the state.

Those names include two of the best known sheriffs in Georgia: Butch Conway of Gwinnett and the ever-quotable Howard Sills of Putnam.

In a statement, Conway called Cagle the "go-to guy" at the statehouse.

"He is a proven leader that always delivers for the law enforcement community," he said.
