The Democratic Party of Georgia called on Republican state Rep. Betty Price to resign Monday after she insulted the looks and intelligence of high-profile Democrats and said one of the party's biggest achievements was "the evolution of their women to have higher testosterone levels than many of their men."

The Roswell Republican's remarks, posted online Monday by a Democratic group, came at a recent Fulton County GOP breakfast as part of a lengthy list of differences between Democrats and Republicans that drew chuckles from the crowd.

Price opened her remarks by saying she “borrowed heavily” from online sources to develop the list, and that they were “completely tongue in cheek.” She added, to laughs, “remember, in America, nobody has the right not to be offended.”

She then listed a string of “beautiful and smart” Republican women, that included NBC News anchor Megyn Kelly, former First Lady Laura Bush, ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and First Lady Melania Trump.

“The Democrats have Rachel Mad-cow,” a reference to MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, “Rosanne Barr, Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth ‘Pocahontas’ Warren, Madeleine Albright and of course Hillary Clinton.”

Later in her remarks, Price said that “liberal achievements include the invention of group therapy, the domestication of cats, group hugs and the evolution of their women to have higher testosterone levels than many of their men.”

Democratic party spokesman Michael Smith called on Price, a physician and wife of former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, to "follow her husband's lead and resign from office in disgrace." He stepped down last year amid questions about his use of private and military jets at taxpayer expense.

“It’s quite sad that Betty Price has reduced herself to the kind of crass and classless remarks we've come to expect from Trump’s Twitter account,” he said.

Price said the remarks were clearly a joke.

“I issued a disclaimer. It’s been around the Internet a thousand times,” she said. “If that’s all they got, good luck.”

Price faces a GOP challenge in May from former Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, who served as mayor for 20 years until a judge ruled he can't seek another term.

She also has landed in hot water over comments about whether there was a legal way to quarantine people with HIV. She has said her remarks at the state legislative hearing were taken "completely out of context."
