U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell endorsed Teresa Tomlinson’s bid to unseat U.S. Sen. David Perdue, calling her the “only candidate who will be ready to serve on day one.”

The California Democrat has sought to play a wider role in national politics that included a longshot bid for president and efforts to support promising young U.S. House candidates.

Swalwell said in a statement he was drawn to Tomlinson, a former mayor of Columbus, because “she has governed with a proven track record of success.”

Tomlinson is one of three well-known Democrats competing in a June 9 primary to challenge Perdue. Sarah Riggs Amico, who ran for lieutenant governor in 2018, and Jon Ossoff, an investigative journalist and former congressional contender, are also in the race.
