with the announcement that Comcast will

at the new stadium site. But the franchise is also on the precipice of another major win that could amount to a multimillion dollar tax break.

Gov. Nathan Deal said after the announcement he expects the project to be declared a project of "regional significance," a designation that goes to large-scale projects with a regional footprint.

That means the ballclub would be in line to nab a sales and use tax refund for a portion of the project's costs for up to 10 years. For the stadium and mixed-use development, tabbed at around $1.1 billion, that could be worth tens of millions of dollars.

The governor said the decision rests with the heads of the state revenue and economic development departments. But since he appoints both those commissioners, the final call is nominally his to make.

"As you saw from the size of the project, it's certainly a project of regional significance," he said in an interview. "I would have every expectation that this would be qualified."
