U2 will return to stadiums to celebrate and revisit its landmark 1987 album, "The Joshua Tree."
The band’s limited run of shows doesn’t include Atlanta – and there are no definite plans to add more dates – so fans clamoring to hear Bono and the boys run through "With Or Without You,” "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Where The Streets Have No Name" might want to make travel plans.
The timing of the Georgia Dome closing in March, the Atlanta Braves’ SunTrust Park having games scheduled and the new Mercedes Benz Stadium opening at the end of July also leaves Atlanta at a stadium disadvantage during the time period of the tour, which kicks off May 12 in Vancouver and wraps in the U.S. July 1 in Cleveland.
U2 last played Atlanta in 2009, when its massive 360 Tour visited the Georgia Dome.
For this anniversary tour, U2 will play Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn. – its first-ever U.S. headline festival appearance – June 8-11. Other dates include Miami (June 11), Tampa (June 14), Philadelphia (June 18) and Washington D.C. (June 20).
Tickets for the tour will go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 for the general public (various pre-sales begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 11) and run in the $35-$280 range. Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands. There is a four-ticket limit for U2 Subscribers and a six-ticket limit for public sales. For the 30th anniversary of "The Joshua Tree," U2 will perform the album in its entirety, with support from a series of special guests including Mumford & Sons, OneRepublic and The Lumineers (for European dates, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will share the bill).
“The Joshua Tree” was U2’s first No. 1 album in the U.S. and has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
