CLEVELAND -- Hello from LeBron country, where Republicans are hoping some of this city's newfound winning ways will rub off on them heading into this fall's election. Georgia's delegates and alternates are here, as is the AJC team including yours truly, and the delegation got things started earlier today with a lunchtime speech from Sen. David Perdue.
You can read the Political Insider's write-up on Perdue's speech here , but in a press gaggle afterward I asked the senator a question that's been on my mind for a while. After all the talk about his international business experience during his own race as an "outsider" two years ago, how does he react to Donald Trump's talk about bringing jobs back -- including through some strong-arm tactics that aren't really in keeping with traditional GOP dogma about simply ensuring the business environment is attractive to companies? Here's what he said:
"There are some high-labor intensive products made overseas that are going to be very difficult to bring back in the short term. But we see textiles being reinvigorated in the South right now to some degree because of just-in-time capabilities in technology, but the world is a global economy, it's a global marketplace. While there might be nuances that I might be a little nervous about, overall I agree totally."
