Sometimes, a little lesson in humility can be a good thing
A sense of perspective -- an ability to step outside ourselves and our daily preoccupations and see things on a larger scale -- can be a powerful thing. It can help us understand what is important and, more crucially, what is not important. It can serve as a source of humility, balance and patience, virtues greatly undervalued in modern life.
So before we kick off the week, here are a couple of perspectives from sources that were created by human hands yet are far removed from human toil and trouble. First, a look homeward from astronaut Reid Wiseman, who recently returned to Earth after a four-month tour aboard the International Space Station:
And next, a look outward from the Hubble Space Telescope. The view below is of the NGC 7793 galaxy, a relatively nearby galaxy located in the constellation Sculptor, visible only from Earth's southern hemisphere. According to NASA, the pink dots represent "star nurseries" where new stars are constantly being formed.
We shall resume our petty arguments and disputations shortly.
