Seventy-five years ago today, a baby named John Winston Lennon was born in the English port city of Liverpool, the son of an intinerant seaman and his wife Julia.

You know what happened after that. So to mark the day and everything that came afterward, here's John singing one of his many hits as a solo artist:

"I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, I just love to watch them roll,

No longer riding on the merry go round, I just had to let it go ...."

I always try to keep politics out of my Friday musical offerings, but listening to those words, I can't help but think that somewhere in Washington, John Boehner is sitting with a glass of red wine and a cigarette, thinking much the same thing. But that merry go round just won't let him go quite yet.

Have a good weekend everybody.
