Congress will take two lengthy legislative breaks in 2016, giving members of both parties plenty of time to attend to election year business back in their home states, as Republicans issued the session calendar for next year.
The first big gap comes in the second half of July, when the national conventions for Republicans and Democrats are scheduled, as the two parties nominate their standard bearers for the 2016 elections.
Lawmakers will then be off for the month of August, taking them through Labor Day.

The schedule for 2016 also envisions no legislative business in the month of October, and in the days before the elections, scheduled for November 8, 2016.
