Cobb County barbecue fans who have looked forward to getting their fix at the Whole Hawg Happenin' BBQ and Music Fest for the past four years will need to look elsewhere this year: The festival won't be returning to Marietta Square.
The Marietta City council declined to approve the event, according to the Marietta Daily Journal, after festival organizers allegedly didn't attend council meetings to address questions from council members regarding the event's past performance and donations made by the for-profit event to charitable organizations including the Strand Theatre and Marietta Museum of History.
Sam Kelly told the Daily Journal the festival isn't being held because of declining sponsorships and a lack of interest from the event's founders.
Whole Hawg Happenin' which has been held in September since 2012, featured barbecue food and competition and live music and other entertainment.
