When it comes to buying chicken, you should never just wing it.
Lucky for you, the chicken from Springer Mountain Farms, based in Mt. Airy, was recently named "Best Tasting Bird" by Cooking Light Magazine.
The bird -- raised antibiotic and cage-free and on a vegetarian diet -- beat out 11 competitors, including chickens from Publix, Bell & Evans Organic and Kirkland Fresh Harvested.
Springer Mountain Farms received an overall score of 3.4 in the blind taste test, and attributes listed such as "good mellow flavor, meaty yet tender, slices well".
The chickens are used at several metro Atlanta restaurants including No. 246 in Decatur, 1920 Tavern in Roswell and The Shed in Atlanta.
