From Mutsu to Braeburn to Rome Beauty to Pink Lady, Atlantans sure do love their apples . Pazazz is the latest variety to hit town.

Today, Jan. 14, Minesota-based Honeybear Brands is releasing its new apple variety in Atlanta. The apple, hyped as a worthy alternative to the Honeycrisp, will be available exclusively at area Publix grocery stores during January and February.

Honeybear Brands, one of the first licensed growers of the Honeycrisp variety, has been developing Pazazz for more than seven years as a late fall variety that peaks in flavor in January and February. The apple offers a blend of sweet and tart flavors and a crisp yet juicy texture. It is currently grown in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, New York and Nova Scotia, Canada.

Atlanta is one of a select number of locations selected to sample and sell Pazazz in January and February. Other retailers include markets in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Seattle, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington and Ontario, Canada.

Honeybear anticipates rolling out Pazazz across the country in 2017.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
