A well-known Atlanta craft beer and wine store has announced plans for a new restaurant in the city’s West End neighborhood.

The team behind Hop City Craft Beer & Wine team is set to open Boxcar at 1020 White St. SW in the Lee + White development project this winter. The location will include a retail space and the restaurant space, which will be all encompassed under Boxcar

a new Hop City location. The eatery will be the team's second in Atlanta -- it also owns Barleygarden Kitchen in Avalon, with an upcoming location in Pinewood Forest in Fayetteville. Hop City also has locations in West Midtown and in Krog Street Market in Inman Park as well as a store in Birmingham.

Led by chef Matty Hutchins, the kitchen will serve pub food with dishes including burgers, sandwiches and salads alongside a weekly rotation of large plates sourced from local farmers. On the beverage end, look for 80 rotating draft choices at two different beer, wine and cocktail bars, in addition to a selection of cocktails.

Inspired by the "ubiquitous urban canvas that is the grafitti'd railroad freight train," according to a press release, Boxcar's decor will feature a mural from popular Atlanta artist Catlanta depicting hobo icon Leon Ray Livingston. Hop City will also be donating a portion of sales at Boxcar to the Atlanta Mission and will be partnering with WorkSource Georgia to help keep longtime West End residents in the community and working.

Hop City owner Kraig Torres said the retail side will be “more curated” with closer to 1,000 choices compared to the 1,900 or the original West Midtown. The store will also offer a selection of small-production wines.

Boxcar will join several other concepts at Lee + White including Cultured SouthMonday Night Garage, Wild Heaven and Best End Brewpub.
