There’s not much you need that you can’t find along Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. Restaurants, food shops and markets abound. Here's what we're stocking up on this week at some of our favorite spots in Sandy Springs.
Fresh pasta for a good cause
Enjoy lunch or dinner at il Giallo Osteria & Bar in Sandy Springs and you can watch your pasta being made, cut and filled at the pasta station at the front of the kitchen. Enjoy some with your meal and then ask the kitchen to prepare an order to take home. These fresh pastas are sold by the pound and include gnocchi, stuffed pastas such as agnolotti and caramelle and noodles such as lasagna, pappardelle, linguine and spaghetti. In September, a portion of the fresh retail pasta sales go to benefit Amatrice, Italy, one of the towns hit by an earthquake on August 24. From $8 to $17 per pound. il Giallo Osteria & Bar, 5920 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs. 404-709-2148. ilgialloatl.com

Classic Atlanta shortbread
Atlanta has been enjoying the sweet and savory treats of Henri's Bakery since 1929. The bakery cases hold old-school treats such as rugelach, elephant ears and petit fours. The bakery's po' boy sandwiches with fillings piled high on house-baked bread are standard lunch fare for many. But it's their shortbread cookies that appeal to the kid in all of us - one-and-a half-inch circles of rich cookie dough capped with a dot of glaze in one of seven different colors. Grab a box full and see if you can resist snacking on them on the ride home. $1.09 each. Henri's Bakery, 61 Irby Avenue, Atlanta, 404-237-0202 and 6289 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, 404-256-7934. henrisbakery.com

A base for fall soups
One of the most fragrant stores in Sandy Springs is Penzeys. You can sniff dozens of spice blends, consider gift boxes like Cocoa Lovers and Taste of Mexico and find real wasabi or choose from four kinds of paprika. We suggest you stock up on their soup bases. The store carries seven varieties – ham, beef, turkey, pork, seafood, chicken and vegetable – of these highly concentrated flavorings. Just a teaspoon or tablespoon will boost the flavor of your homemade stock, or give a little extra umami to your sauces and gravy. $9.95 per 8-ounce jar. Penzeys Spices, 6235 Roswell Road NE, Sandy Springs. 404-356-7970. penzeys.com
