Where you're going to eat that pre-flight meal likely isn't at the top of the list of things you think about when you're planning a trip to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, but one restaurant group is hoping to change that.
For the second year, airport concessionaire HMSHost has declared October "Airport Restaurant Month." In Atlanta, that means a special chef's tasting menu at Atlanta ChopHouse & Brewery, located in the domestic terminal atrium.
It's one of many signs that point to airport dining becoming a destination rather than an afterthought -- Chef Duane Nutter's One Flew South was a semifinalist for the 2015 James Beard Award for Outstanding Service, the only Atlanta restaurant nominated, and plenty of restauranteurs are still clamoring for spots, in spite of some of the headaches that come along with operating a spot at the airport.
But the image of the culinary offerings at Hartsfield-Jackson might not change overnight -- the vast majority of the most popular restaurants are still chains.
