Expiration labels don’t mean a thing.
According to the poll “What foods do you eat after the expiration date?” bread was the winner with 46 votes. Coming in at a close second was canned goods (43 votes) followed by eggs (39 votes), milk (36 votes), other (24 votes) and meat (14 dates).
The second part of the poll asked, “How long after the expiration date do you eat food?” Most people voted for 3 – 5 days; that was the top answer with 24 votes. Second place went to “until mold appears or it smells” (23 votes) and was followed by 1 – 2 days (17 votes) and 5 – 10 days (11 days).
Oh, yes, the thing I eat after the expiration date? Bread. I keep in the refrigerator so it lasts longer, which is why I’m content to eat it 5 – 10 days past the expiration date.
