The chef behind a popular Mexican pop-up is going brick-and-mortar in Summerhill.

Helio Bernal, who runs The Real Mexican Vittles, is set to open D Boca N Boca at 39 Georgia Ave. in the new Carter mixed-use development in the Summerhill neighborhood.

The Mexican gastropub and taqueria will feature a “cutting-edge beverage program and a “stunning outdoor patio” according to a listing from real estate company The Schumacher Group.

The Real Mexican Vittles, which has been popping up since 2017 at several Atlanta businesses, offers a variety of dishes including tacos and tamales as well as vegan options.

In addition to his pop-up, Bernal, whose family owns a Mexican grocery distribution business, offers catering services.

Other food and beverage projects coming to the area include Little Bear from Eat Me Speak Me founder Jarrett SteiberConspiracy barWood's Chapel BBQ from the team behind The General Muir, Hodgepodge Coffeehouse, Halfway Crooks Brewing and Blending, Junior's Pizza and soft serve ice cream spot Big Softie. Another pop-up veteran, Talat Market, will also set up shop as brick-and-mortar in Summerhill this year. Little Tart Bakery opened earlier this year.

The Carter development is part of a site being redeveloped near Georgia State Stadium. Part of the project will turn 35 acres into a mixed-use area including offices, multifamily apartments, student apartments, and neighborhood restaurant and retail.

The AJC has reached out to Bernal for more details, including a projected opening date.
