Summer is made for easy-breezy picnics in the park, at concerts and a slew of blanket and basket worthy locales. To get started, the list below provides suggestions on where to get some of the best food—whether you buy and prepare, pick up pre-made or request catered—plus beer, wine and dessert options.

Market Across the Street: This quaint one-stop-shop features a notable selection of wine and local beers, fresh fruit, veggies, locally baked goods, pre-made meals and sandwiches, big retro jars of candy plus grocery items. Bringing your pet to the picnic? There's a selection of natural dog food and treats too.

Your DeKalb Farmers Market: Stock up on everything you need and want for a picnic at this gargantuan warehouse market in Decatur. They offer domestic and international fare and feature a slew of departments including fresh-baked breads and pastry, produce, prepared foods, beer and wine, cheese, meats, a deli and a front-of-aisle section for kitchen gadgets. On the weekends, they offer food samples, particularly in the bakery department so you can taste test several breads before buying.

Alon's Bakery Market: This Euro-style bakery offers a "Picnic in the Park" option—food is packed along with plastic ware, paper goods and complimentary fresh-baked baguettes. If you opt to shop in-store at their Dunwoody or Virginia Highland location, you'll find a variety of sandwiches, soups, wines, cheese, and a notable bakery department that features artisan breads and desserts.

The General Muir: Instead of making sandwiches, order favorites such as a vegetarian Reuben or classic pastrami sandwiches stacked high with house cured and smoked pastrami from this New York-style Jewish deli at Emory Point in Druid Hills.
