Good Word Brewing and Public House in Duluth reopened for takeout service in April, and is currently offering both beer and food to-go Wednesdays-Sundays.

One of brewpub’s newest beers is an Italian Pilsner called Any Day Now that also happens to be an exciting collaboration with Blackberry Farm Brewery.

And in honor of that, Any Day Now is this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile

Any Day Now Italian Pilsner is Good Word’s collaboration with Tennessee’s Blackberry Farm Brewery. But what exactly is an Italian Pilsner? The style has its roots Birrifico Italiano’s Tipopils. And the basic recipe is a hop-forward lager, with German Noble hops, and malt from the kind of barley grown near the Adriatic Sea.

Any Day Now was brewed with Weyermann Eraclea malt, dry hopped with Seitz Farm German Hallertau Mittelfrüh, lagered for three months, and naturally carbonated. The result is a pale gold pils with a frothy head, a delicate mouthfeel, lovely earthy and herbal notes, and bracing bitterness in the finish. At 5% alcohol, I’d say it’s a perfect pandemic porch beer.

Pair with

Good Word’s current takeout menu offers plenty of pairing possibilities, including the GWB cheeseburger, pulled pork sandwich or hot wings — or one of the family comfort meal favorites, such as lasagna Bolognese or picadillo meatloaf.
