Thousands of people made their way to Midtown for the 2015 Atlanta Food & Wine Festival (AFWF), which took place May 28-31. From the Big Bad Pop-Up Dinner Series, which featured chefs from across the country serving street food and creative cocktail concoctions plus 90 curated culinary classes, 10 dinner-events, three tasting tents and one big opening night party to kick-off the festival's fifth year, the AFWF was the celebration of Southern culture.
The Loews Atlanta Hotel hosted seminars and demonstrations while neighboring locations featured tasting tents and more. Despite minor delays due to inclement weather, attendees came out to eat, drink and learn from some of the best chefs and experts in Georgia, D.C., Texas, and several other southern states. Anne Quatrano of Bacchanalia lead Strawberry Splendor, a session dedicated to exploring and incorporating locally grown strawberry varietals. Food adventurers indulged in the Bugs & Chocolate demonstration, which Nicole Patel of Delysia Chocolatier in Texas presented using unusal ingredients like grasshopper and crickets mixed with chocolate. And of course, there was a bevy wine and cocktail classes.
Missed this year’s event? Not to worry. The 2016 AFWF will take place from June 2-6.
Also on tap was the third annual Georgia Craft Beer Festival, an outdoor festival that was held on Defoor Hills Road, adjacent to Red Brick Brewing Company. The event featured over 30 local breweries, entertainment and the perfect complement—food trucks. Breweries such as Monday Night Brewing, Wrecking Bar Brewpub and Creature Comforts Brewing Company offered craft beers to sample at the event, which sold-out for its third installment. Dates for 2016 have yet to be announced, but click here for a map of breweries in Georgia.
