It's salt by a hair.

We polled readers yesterday, asking them to weigh in on which Georgia food Gov. Nathan Deal should have wagered for this weekend's game against the Green Bay Packers (he's offering up  a bottle of Coca Cola, chili dogs from The Varsity, peach pies from Dickey Farms, Georgia peanuts and two six-packs of Creature Comforts' Tropicalia if Green Bay wins).

There are lots of iconic Georgia foods and drinks that could have topped the list, but it was an Atlanta-made salt that took the top spot -- readers picked Beautiful Briny Sea salt as the food product they'd most want to see wagered by the Governor. The salts, which come in a variety of flavors including French Picnic, Campfire and Friends Forever, are mixed up by Suzi Sheffield and her team at their Grant Park headquarters and sold in local stores and at farmers markets and festivals.

Coming in a very close second were Georgia peanuts, followed by a Chick-fil-A sandwich, a bottle of Coca-Cola, Varsity chili dogs and Georgia pecans.

There were also some worthy write-in candidates, including Chateau Elan muscadine wine, Wisham Jellies made in Tifton, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Taxco cheese dip and salsa, AtlantaFresh chocolate milk, grits, Mercier Orchards' pink lady apples, SweetWater 420 beer, King of Pops frozen pops and Doux South pickles.

If all goes well on Sunday, Deal might have an opportunity to offer some more of Georgia's finest up to the governor of Pennsylvania or Massachusetts.
