Democrats in down-ballot statewide races have all taken the stage together as one of the rally’s opening acts. That includes state schools superintendent candidate Alisha Thomas Searcy, who has complained about being ostracized by allies of gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams told the crowd the stakes are high and their votes were needed to give Democrats control of statewide offices that determine many faces of their lives.

“We have incredible, historic slate of candidates for constitutional office,” said Williams, who also chairs the state party. “They have the vision, the tenacity and the leadership to make great things happen. But the power to elect them rests with you.”

Williams then introduced four candidates and allowed them to bring brief greetings. Joining Williams and Searcy on the stage were William Boddie, candidate for labor commissioner, agriculture commissioner candidate Nakita Hemingway and lieutenant governor candidate Charlie Bailey.

State Sen. Jen Jordan, the party’s nominee for attorney general, then got the stage to herself and delivered a speech heavy on protecting abortion rights.
