Republican Nathan Deal talked with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial board on Sept. 20.

Anytime you start a small business, you know there are risks and gambles you take, Deal said. We felt like considering the time frame when it was initiated that it was a reasonable undertaking. But obviously there are many circumstances over which nobody had any control. But I never regret helping my children.

Deal's daughter and son-in-law incorporated Wilder Outdoors in January 2006. It went out of business in March 2009.

The AJC reported that Deal and his wife have a $2.3 million loan that will come due one month after the gubernatorial inauguration.

Nathan Deal is a focused individual," says Gov. Sonny Perdue (left). "He's [been] an attorney, prosecutor, a congressman for 18 years. You better not get in a room and doubt Nathan Deal's intellect and his ability to focus and concentrate, or you're going to be on the short side of any kind of discussion."

Despite recent financial revelations, Deal maintains a lead over Democrat Roy Barnes and Libertarian John Monds.

Republican and former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal will face Democrat and former Gov. Roy Barnes in the November gubernatorial election.

Deal greets U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson at the unity breakfast following Deals runoff victory over Karen Handel.

Deal gets congratulations from House Speaker David Ralston at the unity breakfast.

In addition to Democrat Roy Barnes, Deal faces Libertarian gubernatorial candidate John Monds in November.

Deal answers questions following a Republican Unity Breakfast at 103 West on West Pacers Ferry in Buckhead. The event brought together winners and losers from the Republican primaries on August 11.
