Almost eight months after absorbing an electoral beating from Gov. Nathan Deal following a spirited but ultimately failed campaign, former state Sen. Jason Carter wrote the final checks on his 2014 bid.

Carter filed his final report and closed his account last week after spending about $8.3 million in his bid to unseat Deal. The incumbent raised about twice as much for the race and joined his Republican colleagues in besting Democrats at the polls.

Carter’s final checks went to some familiar names, and some not-so-familiar ones.

He sent $5,000 to Anzalone Liszt Grove Research, a polling outfit that also did work for President Obama. Carter’s campaign paid the pollsters almost $200,000 during the course of the campaign. He also reported sending AKPD, the media consulting firm founded by top Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod, a final $12,305. Overall, Carter’s campaign paid AKPD about $225,000. He reimbursed Felicity Huffman of “Desperate Housewives” fame $7,500 for expense.

And his final payment, to close out the account, was for $656.28 and went to a political action committee called Generation Georgia PAC. The address for the PAC is Carter’s home, a likely sign the former candidate will remain politically active.
