House approves amended Cobb Commission map
The state House approved a reapportionment map on Tuesday for Cobb County Commission districts that restores the Mable House complex to the southwest Cobb district.
But the change did not fully appease Commissioner Woody Thompson, who represents the area. Thompson wants all of Mableton to remain in his district and plans to place another version of the map on the County Commission's agenda next week.
Cobb Democrats had challenged a version of the district map, created by Republican Reps. Ed Setzler and Rich Golick, that split Mableton and placed part of the area, including the Mable House complex, in the southeast district.
On Tuesday, Rep. David Wilkerson, D-Austell, had the item removed from the local consent calendar, requested a separate vote on the map and noted the existing dissatisfaction from some commissioners and the Mableton Improvement Coalition.
The map, which would be used in commission elections this year, now moves to the Cobb Senate delegation for consideration.
