It’s gonna be a busy day.
The House will take up the big gun bill — no amendments permitted, while the Senate will focus on foster care/child welfare privatization and the DeKalb County non-partisan election bill.
The joint House/Senate Ethics committee will meet at 4 p.m. to evaluate how last year’s changes are working out.
Throughout the day, the Capitol will be crawling with teachers, some of whom are still not happy with their health care options. And at noon we’ll have the debut of a new good government group, Georgia Watchdog.
At the same time, less than a mile away, Georgia’s U.S. Senate candidates will try to distinguish themselves at a forum sponsored by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. We’ve heard this one might get testy.
On the gubernatorial front, Gov. Nathan Deal holds a first meeting of his weather emergency task force at 2 p.m. today. GOP primary rival John Barge, the state school superintendent, addresses PAGE at noon. And state Sen. Jason Carter, the Democrat from Atlanta, has a presentation on education reform scheduled for post-adjournment.
