The state ethics commission's website was hacked Thursday and its home page was briefly replaced by an image of Iran.
The image said the commission’s site was now “owned” by a variety of people claiming to be the “Ashiyane Digital Security Team.”
Holly LaBerge, the commission’s executive director, said not everyone was seeing the hacked site when visiting the website. For some, the site operated normally.
“Our IT guys cannot find any evidence of the site being hacked, but they are still looking into this to be sure,” LaBerge said.
A 2011 report by Forbes magazine said the Ashiyane Digital Security Team is a well-known hacker group in Iran known for attacks against the FBI and others.
