Early voting for Georgia’s primary runoff election begins Tuesday

Early in-person voting ahead of Georgia's statewide July 26 primary runoff begins Tuesday for several congressional, state and local races still to be decided.

Seats up in the election include the GOP contest between challengers Mike Crane and Drew Ferguson for Georgia's 3rd Congressional District; 94-year-old state House Veterans Affairs Chairman John P. Yates, R-Griffin (the last World War II veteran serving in the Georgia Legislature) in a GOP runoff for state House District 73 against Griffin chiropractor Karen Mathiak; and a Democratic battle that will decide an attempted comeback by former DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones against legal support consultant Rhonda Taylor for state House District 91, which covers parts of DeKalb and Rockdale counties.

Atlanta and Clayton County, among others, also have Superior Court races up for grabs.

How to check your local ballot or voting location

Anyone can confirm his or her voter status online through the secretary of state's online "My Voter Page" website (www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do). You can use the same link to find a sample ballot or to request an absentee ballot.

If you want to cast an early ballot in person, check with your local elections office to see where to go (early voting is only available at select locations and your regular polling place is unlikely to be one of them).

Information about local elections and your “My Voter Page” can also be found on the state’s “GA Votes” mobile application. You can download the free app for both Apple and Android operating systems using either the iTunes app store for an iPhone or iPad, or Google Play for Android.
