Struggling to understand ‘heartbeat’ bill foe’s thinking

While watching the 5 o’clock news, I heard State Sen. Valencia Seay state that she had a hope and a prayer the heartbeat bill would not be signed into law. That statement surely confounded me. The way I interpreted that was, she prayed to God (I assume) that laws would be written to allow mothers to kill God’s creation within their womb. I think in the Old Testament, there are 10 no-no’s, one of which covers that. I’m still trying to get my head around her statement. It just doesn’t make sense.

Ga. unlikely to help unwanted children after birth

Regarding House Bill 481, in all the discussion about the “heartbeat bill” there is never any mention about care for that unwanted child after birth whose mother has no option in Georgia to abort. Those mostly young, poor, frequently drug-addicted mothers have no way to care properly for a child. The father gets off almost scot-free since enforcement is practically impossible, and the grandparents are probably left caring for the child. Certainly the state doesn’t provide adequate support. It’s the old case of sacred in the womb, but worthless after birth. It’s all very well and good to go about the preservation of the fetus, but when will anyone care about that unwanted child after it is born?

Scooters can be dangerous if precautions not taken

Electric scooters are showing up in cities across the country including Atlanta, and are becoming a popular mode of transportation. Unfortunately, injuries associated with them are also becoming popular reasons for why patients end up in our ambulances and emergency rooms where I treat broken arms, bad bruises, and neck and facial injuries. Across the country, we have seen serious head injuries caused by scooter accidents. While scooters are fun and convenient, they can also be very dangerous if you don’t ride them correctly or follow the rules of the road or sidewalk. The most important thing you can do to avoid serious harm is wear a helmet and always be courteous and alert when riding. As an emergency physician, I’ll always be prepared to treat you if necessary. But being a responsible rider can be your greatest defense from getting injured in the first place.

‘Diversity’ nothing but liberals’ brand of discrimination

Diversity is putting lipstick on a sow so someone can choose people based on their genitalia or skin pigment. Instead it should be called, “How to discriminate and get away with it.” Diversity “suggests” that hiring based on this brings to the workplace something related to their skin pigment or genitalia that would not otherwise be there, or giving attributes based on sex and race, or sexism and racism. Nowhere does it speak to hiring based on skills. So while we foam at the mouth on these progressive distractions, the Chinese educate, train, hire and promote the best engineers, scientists, doctors, etc., to work to eventually overcome America – without worrying about these kind of progressive stupidities.
