APS correct to balk at Gulch tax subsidy
Bravo to the Atlanta Public School Board’s recent vote to restrict further use of school property tax dollars to pay for the Gulch development (“APS, mayor clash over Gulch,” Metro, Dec. 8). Though my children graduated from public schools decades ago, half of my annual property tax bill is for schools. Since I have grandchildren in public schools, I feel an obligation to support them and don’t get bent out of shape when paying school taxes. What I do get bent out of shape over is the use of my designated school tax dollars to support non-school-related expenditures. I’m tired of public office holders siphoning dollars to pay for other projects. We are tired of such “bait and switch” actions. If proposed commercial enterprises associated with the Gulch cannot financially support their private business ventures, school tax dollars should not be used to make up the difference.

GOP will pay for inaction just as Dems did
Donald Trump has told over 6,000 lies since he took office. I don’t pay much attention to them anymore. Most of his followers know they’re lies but accept them because they believe in party over country. The problem is, there are many of his followers who do believe them and act on them. Case in point: Recently, when Trump lied about the news media being the enemy of the people, CNN was threatened with a bomb scare. Sensible and smart people know Trump is a dangerous clown. Ignorant people believe him and act on his lies. When Bill Clinton was accused of being a sexual predator, Democrats, including myself, circled the wagons. In retrospect, this was a huge mistake. We should have kicked him out of office and let Gore take over. Republicans, beware: You will pay for the damage Donald Trump is doing to our country the same way Democrats did.
