The Supreme Court is wading into another controversy — the use of racial preferences in college admissions. Colleges already consider many factors beyond a student’s academic record, especially if the student is an athlete. I discuss another group of students who may warrant special consideration by admissions offices: males. Readers share their views on race-conscious admissions by colleges. The guest column looks at the importance of music programs in inspiring students and communities, and warns that such programs are often victims of budget cuts.
