A Fulton County sheriff’s captain was arrested and charged with pandering Friday night as part of an undercover operation by the Clayton County Police Department, authorities said.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Walter Lee White was among nearly two dozen people arrested during “Operation Summer Heat,” a large scale sting aimed at cracking down on prostitution and underage alcohol sales, Clayton County police spokeswoman Noel Robinson said.
Online records show White was booked into the Clayton County jail at about 11:15 p.m. Friday and charged with prostitution-pandering. As of Saturday morning, he remained incarcerated.
No further information was available regarding the arrest.
“His agency has been notified and is aware of the incident,” Robinson said.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said White was “talking with internal affairs” on Saturday.
“He has worked for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years,” Flanagan said. “His status is undetermined at this time while command staff gather more information.”
A total of 12 men were arrested and charged with pandering during the operation, police said. In addition, 10 females were charged with prostitution and 23 businesses were cited for selling alcohol to underage individuals.
“This marks the beginning of many more law enforcement initiatives by the Clayton County Police Department to make Clayton County a safe place for its citizens to live,” Clayton police Chief Gregory Porter said in a statement. “The operation was a fine example of how effective the community oriented police concept can work by partnering with the community to address their public safety concerns.”
