The day marks National Hunting and Fishing Day, and for Georgia residents, it means everyone can fish in all state waters — even if you don't have a license.

This is Georgia's third "free fishing" day of the year, with the other two preceding this one on June 3 and 10. For Georgia, these days mean all residents can fish in all public waters of the state without a fishing or trout license. However, these days do not waive fees at private lakes, and other fishing regulations still apply.
National Hunting and Fishing Day was established by Congress and President Richard Nixon in 1972 to recognize generations of hunters and anglers for the time and money they donate to wildlife conservation programs.
