The food permit for Wok Rock in Duluth was suspended because of an active infestation of roaches, a repeat code violation which led to a second consecutive failing health score.
Live cockroaches in multiple life cycles were observed throughout the kitchen, according to the inspection report. They were on the prep table, the dish sink, the floor and the freezer, among other areas. The Gwinnett County health inspector said roaches were coming out of the vegetable prep sink drain and down from ceiling panels.
Roach feces were found near the dish sink and prep sink.
Dead roaches were also throughout the facility, including on the floor, on storage shelves, by the fryer and hand sink, and even underneath tape used to hang signs posted at the sinks.
The inspector said there were holes in the ceiling around pipes which could be a pest entry and harborage site. Roaches were spotted coming out of gaps between the wall and ceiling in that area.
Wok Rock, 3585 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., scored 55/U on the follow-up inspection. The restaurant had a 50/U on an earlier routine inspection.
Other points were taken off because a condensation leak in the walk-in freezer had not been repaired. As with the previous inspection, ice buildup was found on food packaging.
Among other repeat violations, food was not stored properly in the freezer. Raw frog legs were above cooked clams and raw chicken was above vegetable spring rolls.
Wok Rock will be re-inspected.
