Leading up to the 153rd anniversary of the 1864 Battle of Atlanta, an art show at the East Atlanta Library is showcasing U.S. Civil War battlefield sites.

The Battlefield Series, currently on display, consists of eight works, most of which combine nighttime photos of Gettysburg battlefields with projections of other historical images.

The artist, Florida State University professor Jeff Beekman, is scheduled to attend a free talk at the Jimmy Carter Library on July 20 at 7 p.m. He's also slated to appear at a reception closing event at the East Atlanta Library on July 22 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The events commemorate the Battle of Atlanta, in which thousands of Union and Confederate soldiers died on July 22, 1864.

The show is a partnership between Friends of East Atlanta Library, a nonprofit volunteer organization that works closely with library staff, and BATL, which hosts events related to southeast Atlanta's past.

Beekman donated one of the pieces for a silent auction to benefit the East Atlanta Library, according to Henry Bryant, chair of the Friends of East Atlanta Library Art Wall Committee.

The show can be viewed during library hours when the room holding the gallery is not in use; if the room is locked, ask for access at the circulation desk.
