The House Rules Committee met Wednesday morning but did not consider a bill that would allow local communities to vote on allowing sales of alcohol in stores on Sunday.

Senate Bill 10 had originally been expected to appear before the committee, which decides what bills make it to the House floor. But the committee's chairman, Rep. John Meadows, R-Calhoun, said it would be next week before that happens.

If the bill is approved by the Rules Committee at its next meeting Monday, it could reach the House floor Tuesday, where a positive vote would send it to Gov. Nathan Deal. The governor has indicated that if it reaches his desk, he would sign the bill into law.
