A majority of Georgians think the state’s economy is in pretty good shape, but a lot depends on where they live.

About 60 percent of respondents in a new Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll said they think the economy is in excellent or good shape. About 40 percent said it was in poor or not so good shape.

The results aren't entirely surprising, since the state's unemployment rate has been dropping in recent years and rising state revenue collections show people are earning and spending more.

However, where the poll respondents live effected how they felt about the economy.

In metro Atlanta, 69 percent of respondents said the economy was good or excellent.

In Southeast Georgia, about 39 percent felt that way. In Southwest Georgia, about 50 percent.

Metro Atlanta’s core counties mostly voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in this year’s presidential election, while most of the rest of the state went with Republican Donald Trump.
