It’s not like Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s campaign is short of cash.

But Gov. Nathan Deal isn’t the only Georgia Republican getting help from national GOP groups these days.

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, who is seeking his third term and faces long-shot Democratic hopeful Connie Stokes, is getting about $195,000 worth of help this month in the form of mailings from the Republican State Leadership Committee, an offshoot of the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association, according to disclosures filed this week.

That’s more than twice what Stokes, a former state senator, had raised as of Sept. 30 for her campaign against Cagle. Stokes had just under $30,000 left in her campaign account as of the end of last month.

Cagle, a prodigious fundraiser who is thought to have an eye on the governor’s race in 2018, had $1.5 million on hand.

The lieutenant governors association foray into Georgia is small potatoes compared with the Republican Governors Association commitment. As of last week, the RGA had pumped more than $4 million into the state in support of Deal, who polls suggest is in a tight race with Democratic state Sen. Jason Carter.
