Gwinnett County has named an acting replacement for the county’s retiring transportation director.

Alan Chapman, the current deputy transportation director, will replace Kim Conroy, who retires Oct. 24.

Chapman came to the county’s Department of Transportation in 1997, and worked as a project manager for the road improvements capital program. In 2004, he was promoted to deputy director, where he oversees the preconstruction and construction divisions.

Chapman is a registered professional engineer in the state; he has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Georgia State University. He has also worked as an engineering and construction consultant.
