With a tornado watch issued in metro Atlanta Sunday, officials in Fulton and Cobb counties are monitoring weather and urging residents to pay attention when they go out.
In Fulton, county officials are staying in touch with the National Weather Service and the Georgia World Congress Center, spokesperson Darryl Carver said. The Falcons are playing the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game this afternoon, and Carver urged people who are coming downtown for the game to pay close attention to the weather. He suggested downloading Fulton's CodeRED app, or that of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“We don’t really want to scare people, but we want to make sure they’re staying informed in the best possible way,” he said.
Carver said Fulton officials will continue to keep in touch with other agencies about the storms.
In Cobb, spokesperson Sheri Kell said said the county's Emergency Management Agency is also in touch with the National Weather Service and is monitoring the possible tornadoes.
“We’re prepared to activate as necessary,” she said.
