The Cobb County Commission finalized the purchase of about 150 additional acres of greenspace Tuesday.
The property cost a total of $6.1 million, funded through park bonds issued last year.
The purchase of the parcels clears the way for the creation of three new parks throughout the county, although they are unlikely to be developed anytime soon due to a lack of funds.
Park advocates have said setting aside passive greenspace will help offset what they consider rampant construction.
Commissioner JoAnn Birrell welcomed the acquisition of 18.3 acres on Ebenezer Road in East Cobb for $1.7 million.
“This has been a long time coming,” she said. “We’re getting a beautiful piece of property.”
The board also bought 116.5 acres on Stilesboro Road in West Cobb for $3.8 million, and 14.7 acres for $587,000 in South Cobb.
