Cobb Public Safety Director Sam Heaton will retire after more than 30 years with the county at the end of March.

Heaton, who has been in the position since 2014, submitted his notice earlier this year.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my career with Cobb County and will very much miss the dedicated men and women of this county,” he wrote.

Heaton’s current salary is $156,000. The county has not announced a replacement yet.

County Manager Rob Hosack called Heaton a “tremendous advocate” for public safety and credited him with securing funding for more police officers, body cameras, and vehicles.

“We wish him well and will soon begin the process to find the best possible candidate to succeed him,” Hosack said.
