A British electrical retail company issued an apology after making job candidates go through a not-so-groovy interview process.
Recent university graduate Alan Bacon told British media Currys employees forced him and nine others to dance to a Daft Punk song during a group job interview for a sales position. Bacon described the experience to BBC. (Via Daily Mirror)
"I and nine other job applicants were taken to a back room and we were, after some short introductions, were made to dance with each other as a part of the job process … They were being quite serious." (Via BBC)
Interesting, because dancing to Daft Punk looks like so much fun in the videos. (Via Columbia Records / YouTube / DaftPunkVEVO)
But Bacon said he and the other applicants weren't amused, saying the experience was degrading and he felt uncomfortable doing "rubbish robotics" a lot like Ricky Gervais' character David Brent in the original version of "The Office." That looks … sad. (Via Daily Mail, BBC)
What's worse is that the company reportedly called Bacon after the interview and said he didn't get the job.
The Independent reports the rejection came after Bacon applied for more than 300 jobs in hopes of finding work. Currys later issued a statement, saying the dance-a-thon was a team-building exercise and not a part of its actually recruitment process.
"We are very sorry to those interviewees impacted on this occasion and would like to invite them back to attend an official interview where they will be given a proper opportunity to demonstrate how they can contribute to our business."
Bacon declined the offer for a repeat interview.
